Ford Incentives Plan Approved

The Ford Motor Company says it plans an additional $200 million investment at its two Louisville manufacturing plants, following approval of a state incentives package Thursday. One hundred million dollars will be spent at the Kentucky Truck Plant to make way for production of the Navigator and Expedition models starting next spring, and another $100 million at the Louisville Assembly Plant to build a new fuel-efficient car for the U.S. market by 2011.Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson says that's on top $200 million previously committed to retool the truck plant."Over an eight year period, there could be as much as $180 million committed by the city and by the state to entice what is $400 million of commitment from the Ford Motor Company," he said. The two Louisville Ford plants employ more than 5,000 workers.
