Former Rep. Hamilton Endorses Obama

The Barack Obama presidential campaign has receieved the endorsement of a prominent Indiana Democrat.Former Congressman Lee Hamilton announced Wednesday that he's supporting the Illinois senator's bid for the White House."I think that he has the best opportunity to create a sense of national unity, to transcend the divisions within the country,"Hamilton said. "He's impressed me as being a person who seeks the politics of consensus."Hamilton says Obama has the political skill needed to bring people together and to handle the "formidable foreign policy agenda" awaiting the next president.Hamilton represented southern Indiana's 9th District in Congress for more than 30 years and was chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He also co-chaired the commisison created to investigate the 9/11 attacks.Obama and his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, are vying for the 72 delegates at stake in Indiana's May 6 primary.
