Former Rep. Nunn Arrested After Ex-Fiance Is Slain

Thanks to Stu Johnson, Kentucky Public Radio/WEKU, Richmond, and Lisa Autry, KPR/WKYU, Bowling GreenLexington Police say they want to talk to former gubernatorial candidate and state lawmaker Steve Nunn in connection with the death of his ex-fiance.Twenty-nine year old Amanda Ross died at the UK  Hospital after being shot in her apartment parking lot early this morning. State police report Nunn was found later at the Cosby Cemetery in Hart County, where his parents are buried.He's been charged with wanton endangerment involving a gun that he allegedly brandished at the site.Police say Nunn was suffering from what appeared to be self inflicted cuts.Lexington Lexington Police lieutenant Doug Pape said Friday afternoon it’s an open investigation"Right now we’d like to talk to him in reference to this investigation but we’re not prepared to call him a suspect but he does have a prior relationship with the victim,"Ross was employed by the state insurance department.    Nunn is the son of former Governor Louie Nunn.Gov.  Steve Beshear called the situation "an indescribable tragedy."  

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
