Frankfort City Manager Fired

Kentucky’s capital city is looking for a new city manager. Frankfort's current manager has been fired, effective January 3rd. The Frankfort City Commission voted 4-0 to remove City Manager Tony Massey, who was hired in 2004. Massey lost the commission’s confidence after he and Commissioner Kathy Carter were found in violation of the city’s ethics code. The ethics commission fined each $1,000 after Massey allegedly showed Carter favor in bringing rental property she owns up to electrical code. Massey did not appeal the ethics ruling, but Carter did. Carter, who was defeated at the polls in November, abstained in Massey’s firing. Massey, who makes more than $107,000 per year, was one of Frankfort’s longest serving city managers. Former manager Ken Thompson was forced out in 2002, and his replacement, Bob Elliott, was fired in 2003. The search for Massey’s replacement is now underway.
