Friday Is Third Furlough Day, More Possible In New Budget

Friday is the third of four furlough days for many Louisville Metro Government employees, but more furlough days may be imposed next year.By not paying so-called nonessential employees for four days, Metro Government plans to trim $1.9 million from its $20 million budget shortfall.Mayor's spokesperson Chris Poynter says more money will have to be cut from the next budget, and furloughs, layoffs and a number of other types of reductions will be considered."Revenues are not good, continue to go down, not sure when we're going to hit bottom," he says. "So everything's on the table. The bottom line is we have to do the essential services Metro Government does."The final furlough day for this fiscal year is May 1st.
