Funds Secured For West Louisville Anti-Drug Initiative

An effort to reduce drug and alcohol abuse among young people in west Louisville's Park Hill area is getting a financial boost from the federal government.A $625,000 grant will be administered by Louisville's Center for Neighborhoods to involve schools, businesses, religious groups, police and others in an educational anti-drug initiative.Luther Brown leads a crime prevention group in west Louisville. He says the funds aer sorely needed."When your mind is altered with drugs and chemicals and alcohol, usually your thinking is not going to be on target. We're hoping (for) our youth, we will teach them and educate them to be a future leader in our community," he said.The grant, secured by Congressman John Yarmuth, will be distributed over a five year period.
