GLMS Expects To Send Aid To Myanmar

The Greater Louisville Medical Society expects to contribute to the relief effort in Myanmar, also known as Burma, where a cyclone has killed thousands of people. The society’s Supplies Over Seas, or SOS, program arranges for the shipment of donated medical supplies to disaster or war-torn areas of the world.SOS Logistical Coordinator Bill Roof says the group can either send small supplies with volunteers or ship large pieces of equipment directly to the region.“I surely expect to get some type of call from someone that either is from Burma [Myanmar] or what have you because we worked with the tsunami situation a few years back, we worked with hurricane Katrina and it’s just folks calling trying to find medical supplies," he said.Roof says the group frequently gets donations from hospitals of supplies, which can include surgical equipment, gauze and anesthesia.
