Global Marijuana March Dedicated to Gatewood Galbraith

Activists against the prohibition of marijuana are dedicating an annual global rally to the late Gatewood Galbraith, a fixture of Kentucky politics who advocated for legalizing the drug. The Global Marijuana March began in 1999 and is held in hundreds of cities and dozens of countries with a number of pro-cannabis related events, marches and meetings advocating that lawmakers lift the ban on the drug. Participants celebrate cannabis culture while discussing it as a personal lifestyle choice to users and non-users.For decades, Galbraith was a colorful and perennial candidate who pushed for marijuana legalization. The Lexington lawyer claimed the drug cured his asthma and told WFPL during his 2011 gubernatorial bid that he still smoked cannabis on occasion.Galbraith died in January due to complications from chronic emphysema. The rally is planned for May 5.
