With the election almost a week away, the three Republican primary candidates running for governor will appear on KET’s “Kentucky Tonight” Monday in a televised debate.Host Bill Goodman will host the discussion between state Sen. David Williams, R-Burkesville, Louisville businessman Phil Moffett and Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.Williams is the frontrunner in the GOP contest, holding a commanding lead in fundraising totals and in the polls. However, the Moffett and Holsclaw campaigns believe low turnout and the "air of inevitability" could backfire on the favorite.Over Derby weekend, Williams was profiled in the Louisville Courier-Journaland Lexington Herald-Leader, which concluded his proverbial Achilles' heel would be fighting off the so-called "bully from Burkesville" label. There's plenty to pull from those stories, but what caught my attention was that Williams carries a gun everywhere he goes for security reasons, saying he "absolutely knows how to use it".The debate will air at 8 p.m. on KET1.
