Gray Street Market Adds Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

The Gray Street Farmers' Market will accept Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program benefits this season. The program is administered by the Kentucky Department for Agriculture as a way to provide low-income seniors with access to fresh foods. The market joins 6 other Louisville markets that accept the benefits. Market Manager Melissa Schreck says the program is an important addition and the market will work to ensure people are taking part.“We will be going door to door to let folks know about the senior voucher program," say Schreck "just like we did with and we will continue to do with the EBT Program.”Schreck says 8 other local markets accept foods stamps with the EBT program and that providing fresh fruits and vegetables to low income residents is an important service to the community. The market opens May 19 and the FMNT program will distribute benefits starting June 1.
