Grayson Begins 2010 Senate Campaign

Republican Trey Grayson is traveling Kentucky today and tomorrow, officially kicking off his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2010. The Secretary of State is set to visit Bowling Green, Paducah and Elizabethtown tomorrow.During a stop today in Lexington, Grayson said it’s a good time to be a republican.“I believe what I believe. And I can’t control… I can persuade what voters think. But I can’t control the environment in which they run," said Grayson. "But it does seem like last year was a good year to be a democrat. Right now would be a good time to be a republican, but the election is November of next year and May of next year, so who knows what it’s going to be like then.”Grayson will face Bowling Green ophthalmologist Rand Paul in the republican primary, who is the son of Congressman Ron Paul.“His dad did run for president, he’s got a national following because of that," says Grayson, "but I have this Kentucky following, I have a reputation for doing a good job. I’ve won two statewide elections with republican votes and democratic votes and independent votes.”The GOP primary will also include Elkton businessman Bill Johnson. Grayson was first elected Secretary of State in 2003 in his first run for political office, and was re-elected in 2007.Thanks to our sister station, WEKU, for providing audio for this report.
