Greater Clark County Schools Continues Discussions About Superintendent's Future

The Greater Clark County School Corporation Board of School Trustees has offered Superintendent Stephen Daeschner the chance to remain at his current position, but with lower pay.The board met Tuesday night to discuss options for Daeschner’s future with the district. His current salary is $225,000, but that will need to be cut to help close the district’s $4 million budget gap. Daeschner and the board are also discussing options that include a new job title, said board president Christina Gilkey.“We didn’t really get hung up on titles but it would definitely be a curriculum role. That’s what he’s proven to be very successful at and we are interested in keeping that momentum going,” she said.Daeschner has been superintendent of the district since 2009. Since then, standardized test scores have improved and several board members have mentioned they want him to stay.At Tuesday’s executive session he proposed cutting $250,000 from administrative costs, but that still may not be enough, said Gilkey. Daeschner and the board will continue discussing logistics of proposals that will help to free up additional funds, she said.“You know that’s a big piece of those logistics that I was talking about. In order for us to work this out we may need him to propose a little more than that,” Gilkey said.An agreement is expected to be reached by Dec. 20, when the two parties will enter into a new agreement, or a letter of non-renewal for his contract will be issued.Daeschner is not commenting on the issue at this time.
