A local coalition formed five years ago to come up with a plan to reduce Louisville's carbon footprint has released its Climate Action Report.Partnership for a Green City was spurred in part by the city's participation in the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to seven percent below 1990 levels by the year 2012.Cynthia Lee of the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District says that alone is a major undertaking."Three hundred thousand cars or other vehicles would have to be taken off the road, or it also would mean that 400,000 homes or residences in the community would have to turn off all of their power and energy consumption. Obviously we can't do that, but it makes us understand how big of a task this is going to be," Lee said Wednesday on WFPL's "State of Affairs" program.The report contains 175 recommendations for air quality and other environmental improvements, including tighter energy efficiency standards for vehicles and buildings.The complete document can be seen here.
