Green Makes Radio Debut

Facing removal from the Louisville Metro Council, impeached city lawmaker Judy Green, D-1, announced criminal defense attorney Derwin Webb will be her legal counsel for the trial-like proceedings on the debut of her radio program Saturday. The 30-minute show called “Something to Talk About” premiered on gospel station WLOU-1350 AM over the weekend and featured Green talking to a moderator about her ongoing ethics scandal. Green said the show is intended to give listeners her side of the story in response to the Metro Ethics Commission, which found Green deliberately violated the city's ethics law in two separate cases."We need to have a way—a mass medium—to get our point of view out and get our side of the story out. And with this show my motto is no misquotes, no lies and no third party interpretations. Just real talk," she said.Last week, the panel ruled Green broke multiple parts of the ethics ordinance in the case of rerouting funds through a non-profit group without the council’s knowledge. The decision was the second guilty ethics verdict made against Green in less than a month. The commission ruled she intentionally violated the ethics law with her handling of a city-funded summer jobs program a month earlier. In a letter delivered to Green's district office, which was the first handed out to an elected official, the ethics commission said Green's behavior was unacceptable and caused "citizens to question the confidence" they had in Metro Government and its officials.Though Green said she was angry about the ongoing scandal and wanted to speak out, Webb warned the councilwoman on the air that she shouldn’t talk about her legal and political troubles too much."The best way we can describe this is all things you say can and will be used against you at a later point. So I think it’s best we don’t say too much about the case right now. We have no comment about the accusations that are being made. We’ll have an opportunity to have our case heard in a court of law and try to do it from that standpoint," he said.Webb will file a written response to the misconduct charges made against Green with the council clerk's office later this week.Calling the charges a "bunch of bull", Green criticized the media for how it covered her ethics hearings and said the scrutiny was about "selling newspapers."However, she poked fun at a March LEO Weekly cover story about a number of allegations against her by introducing the show with the Kermit the Frog song, "It's not easy being green," which was the title of the story.Green didn’t take calls on the first program, but did give environmental and dental care tips to listeners who wrote on her Facebook page.
