Ground Broken On New Bellarmine Dorm

Construction continues at Bellarmine University in Louisville. School officials Monday opened a new residence hall and broke ground on another. The hall now under construction will open next autumn, and will be the fourth new residence hall opened in as many years. The buildings will help Bellarmine keep pace with growing enrollment. They're also part of the school's Vision 2020 plan to become the premiere Catholic university in the South.President Joseph McGowan says part of the plan includes having a balance between resident and commuter students."We're not being manic about it, but we like this 50/50 proportion," he says. "It allows us to serve our traditional population and also to reach out and bring in students from, this year, it'll be 31 states and 29 foreign countries."The hall that opened Monday cost eight million dollars. The next dorm will cost 11 million, and includes landscaping improvements.
