Ground Broken On Pipeline Near Shelby County

Ground was broken Tuesday on a new water pipeline that official say could spur more development in eastern Jefferson and western Shelby County.The pipeline will run along Interstate 64 from the Gene Snyder Freeway to the Shelby County line. It's then up to other utilities to connect to the line and extend it eastward.West Shelby Water District Chair Ray Larmee says it’s hoped the pipeline will also help lure a Harley Davidson motorcycle plant to Shelby County, which is among several sites under consideration by the company."Harley Davidson is going to be using quite a bit of water," he says. "They're asking for an elevated tower. With 15 to 18 hundred employees plus the manufacturing process, they will be a prime user of water and therefore this infrastructure will need to be in place for them to come to Shelbyville."Larmee says funds to extend the line into Shelby County have not yet been secured. In Louisville, the pipeline will cost about 20 million dollars over the next year, with 4 million dollars coming from the federal stimulus package.
