'Half the Sky' Event to be Screened in Louisville

by Stephanie CrosbyInternational Women’s Day will be marked later this week in Louisville with a screening of an event called “Half the Sky”. It’s named after the Pulitzer-prize-winning book of the same name.Half the Sky includes a filmed panel discussion about a number of issues facing women around the world, including sex trafficking, maternal mortality and discrimination.Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, is on the panel. She says they are problems many people in developed countries ignore.“We’re okay, we get up in the morning, we go to work, we come back, we complain about our headache, and we have dinner. Great," says Ferguson. "I don’t want to know there’s a woman being mutilated so she can never enjoy sex again and nor do I want to know about sex trafficking, ew!, it’s going to put me off my dinner. Those days are gone. We haven’t got that luxury.”The event also features a short documentary called “Woineshet” about the struggles of a young Ethiopian girl.Half the Sky will be screened Thursday at Stonybrook and Tinseltown Cinemas.
