Hearing On Firehouse Closure Set For January 20

A Jefferson Circuit Judge has set a January 20th hearing date on a request by some residents of Old Louisville for an injunction to force Metro Government to re-open the Engine 7 firehouse. The 138 year old building was shuttered yesterday.Mayor Jerry Abramson last month ordered that the firehouse be closed to help reduce a projected $20 million budget shortfall.Neighborhood residents contend that closing the station would compromise safety, but city officials say there are six other firehouses in the vicinity that can provide adequate coverage. The Engine 7 station was already slated for closure next fiscal year.A judge ordered Monday that a hearing on the injunction request be held at 2:00pm on the 20th.
