Hearing On Gas Price Gouging Complaint Set In Frankfort

A hearing on alleged gasoline price gouging in Kentucky by Marathon Petroleum resumes Thursday morning in Frankfort.Attorney General Jack Conway says Marathon Petroleum has been illegally jacking up gasoline prices during a state of emergency. The company strongly denies it, and both sides are preparing to present expert witnesses in Franklin Circuit Court. Conway plans to seek a restraining order against Marathon.“We have information from a confidential informant about the way Marathon is pricing this and what they’re doing to some of the local retailers. We’ll present that evidence and hopefully, the judge will agree with us,” he said. Four years ago, the state sued Marathon for alleged price gouging in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. That case is still making its way through the judicial system.
