Heating Assistance Pre-Registration Begins

Pre-registration for wintertime heating assistance begins Monday.Last year, Louisville Metro Government distributed 1.4 million dollars to residents who needed help paying winter utility bills. And Mayor's spokesperson Kerri Richardson says an expected drop in natural gas prices isn't likely to curb the need for assistance this year."Even when heating costs are lower, even when people are more comfortable in their jobs or what have you, there are always going to be folks who need a little bit more assistance during the winter," she says. The pre-registration is open to disabled or elderly residents who receive Social Security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits, but anyone can apply for assistance at a Community Action Partnership office.
