Heavy Rains, Strong Winds in Store for Louisville

Heavy rains today and strong winds tomorrow could result in a number of downed power lines in the Louisville area.Angie Lese is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Louisville. She says Louisville is under a high wind watch because of a cold front that will be moving from the southern plains to the Great Lakes overnight.Winds tomorrow are expected to top out around 45 or 50 miles per hour, but Lese says they might be more damaging to power lines because of today’s rains.“That’s also going to loosen up all the trees and stuff so any kind of strong winds that we will get will be more of a factor too," says Lese, "so we’re watching how much rain we get and that’s going to increase the potential for maybe some fallen tree branches, maybe even trees and power lines from the strong winds.”Lese says there could also be some scattered snow showers on the other side of the cold front. The strongest winds are expected between 8am and noon Wednesday.
