Heighten Your ‘Situation Awareness’

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kentucky and Indiana – which means it’s time to beef up on all those insider terms like "super cell" and "wall cloud". No, not really. But Joe Sullivan says it couldn’t hurt. He’s the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Louisville – which basically means he’s the severe weather expert there and teaches all their weather spotter classes. Joe says this week is all about preparation for that moment when a severe weather warning is issued in your area. If your ‘situation awareness’ is increased, you’re less likely to freak out. You can hear my interview with Joe in this week’s Studio 619.Until then, do all that other Severe Weather Awareness Week stuff – like designate a storm shelter for your family and double-check the batteries in your radio.
