Here's What Some U of L Students Think About President Ramsey

The University of Louisville’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Wednesday afternoon to consider President James Ramsey’s offer to resign. The turmoil surrounding the embattled president has left many confused about the future of the school.

None more so than students.

We asked students at U of L’s Belknap Campus for their thoughts on Ramsey and how they think their school should move forward.

Listen to their answers in the audio player above, and read them below.

Annicka Ekvall, 19, freshman: “I’m still pretty confused on the whole Ramsey situation. I’m pretty sure some of the faculty members here are, too. … I don’t know what the next step is. I don’t know why he’s leaving. I don’t know much. But that’s because I’ve only been on campus for about two, three weeks now. ”

Mary Gregg, 29, Ph.D. student: “I think that if he really is going to resign, then he needs to go ahead and resign, somebody needs to step into his office and they need to start a search ASAP for a president to come in next fall.”

Taaj Hill, 22, senior: “It’s not the professor’s whole job, but it should be part of their job to put us on game about what’s going on. … Not everybody wants to check their emails, but we are in class every day, so I feel like that would make a difference.”

Patrick Moher, 19, sophomore: “I’m definitely not excited about all the bad publicity that U of L has been getting. I don’t want to say Ramsey’s to blame for all of it, but I do feel like he’s not been a good leader. ... We need to get somebody with great qualities as a leader.”

Luzon Pivi, 24, senior: “I think the governor doesn’t have the right to change the whole committee. I do think that Ramsey should remain at his position. I think he has done a great job at the University of Louisville. … I think the University of Louisville really focuses on the success of its students.”

Alison Benson, 22, senior: “I don’t really like the sound of Ramsey in general. I don’t really know that much so I can’t form that big of an opinion. It sounds like he’s just out to project himself, which isn’t really right because that’s not his job. He should be there for his students, not for himself.”
