High Winds Could Bring More Outages

The Louisville area is under a High Wind Watch through tomorrow, and weather forecasters are concerned the area will see another round of power outages.Forecaster Mark Jarvis with the National Weather Service in Louisville says wind gusts could top sixty miles per hour– and the area’s fragile trees might not be able to sustain them."What we have is a combination of the high winds, we have soft soil, because the ground is thawed due to the recent warmth, and we’ve also had some rain in the area, and we have a lot of broken tree limbs that are in the high sections, or the tops of the trees," says Jarvis.Last month's ice storm has left the area ripe for more fallen trees and limbs."Because of the soft soil, and these tree limbs breaking down, a lot of these trees are weakened, and with the soft soil these high gusts of wind may just fully push some of these hurt trees completely down and may take out power lines and telephone lines as well," says Jarvis.Jarvis says winds will steadily increase through the storm system that is expected to arrive in Louisville Wednesday afternoon.
