High Winds Leave Thousands In The Dark

Just days after utility crews restored service to hundreds of thousands of people left in the dark by the ice storm, wind gusts and thunderstorms have struck the region, causing more outages. As of 9:00pm Wednesday, some 37,000 LG and E customers were without electricity and 44,000 Kentucky Utilities customers had no service.Duke Energy reported more than 7,000 customers without power in Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Madison counties in Southern Indiana.Kerri Richardson with the Louisville mayor's office says motorists should be cautious at intersections where traffic lights have malfunctioned."We have learned from our prior run ins with windstorms that they do tend to wreak havoc on traffic lights, so if you are headed into work this morning, be mindful of those lights being out and treat all lights that are malfunctioning as four-way stops," Richardson said.Tree limbs and power lines were brought down by wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour.
