Highest Temperatures of the Summer Predicted for Louisville Area

by Stephanie CrosbySome of the highest temperatures of the summer so far are in the forecast for this week. Forecaster Mike Callahan with the National Weather Service says highs in the mid-to-upper 90s are well-above average temperatures for this time of year.Many counties in the far eastern part of Kentucky are under a heat advisory, but Callahan says their weather will be almost the same as here in the Louisville area. He says they have different criteria for issuing heat advisories in that part of the state.“It’s just what the people are used to," says Callahan. "Out in eastern Kentucky, especially in the mountains, they generally don’t see temperatures in the mid-90s, so it’s a little more serious than what you would see in Louisville, where we’re kind of used to seeing mid-90s occasionally.”Callahan says forecasters at the NWS are watching a frontal system that is currently over the plains states that they expect will bring cooler temperatures and some precipitation to the area by Friday.
