Impressionist Exhibition Opens Friday At Speed Museum

Louisville’s Speed Art Museum is preparing to open its newest exhibition to the public this Friday. It’s called Impressionist Landscapes: Monet to Sargent, and features more than 70 paintings.    Chief Curator Ruth Cloudman says as the title suggests, the exhibition is not limited to European artists."I think a lot of people don’t realize that the American Impressionists were the most coherent group of Impressionists after the French, anywhere. Americans really embraced Impressionism. So it’s a very strong part of the show," she said.Thirty-eight works are on loan from the Brooklyn Museum, with the rest from the Speed and private collectors in Kentucky. The exhibition runs from this Friday through May 22nd.(Pictured: Rising Tide at Pourville by Claude Monet, 1882)
