Indiana Abortion Bill Nearing Final Vote

A bill that would give Indiana some of the country’s tightest abortion restrictions is nearing a final vote by state legislators. The measure would cut off funding to Planned Parenthood and ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy unless there’s a substantial threat to the woman’s life or health. That’s four weeks less than current law allows. The bill’s House sponsor has agreed to changes the Senate made to the proposal. They include a provision that would ban federal money the state distributes for health screenings and birth control from going to groups that provide abortions. The Republican-controlled House could vote as soon as tomorrow on the bill. House approval would send it to Gov. Mitch Daniels, who hasn’t taken a public stance on the proposal. The General Assembly ends Friday.(Information for this story came from the Associated Press)
