Indiana Groups Create Community Emergency Fund

The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana is forming a partnership with other foundations to create the Community Emergency Fund – a pool of money that will give cash to local non-profits.  The fund so far has $400,000 from the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County and the Paul W Ogle Foundation. Community Foundation CEO Mike Waiz says his organization will administer grants of up to 20-thousand dollars to non-profits in Clark and Floyd counties.“There could be an organization in Louisville or Harrison county that if they’re serving residents of Clark and Floyd counties, and they can show the funds will be used to serve the residents of Clark and Floyd, that’s the main criteria there," he says.Waiz says the money will be used primarily to help out organizations that need money to help more people affected by the recession – from food banks to job counseling and assistance with utility bills.
