Indiana House Business Delayed Again by Boycotting Democrats

Legislative business in the Indiana House remains idle as 35 Democrats again stayed out of the chamber to protest a “right-to-work” bill pushed by the Republican majority. The members skipped two quorum calls today. They walked off the House floor Monday night after losing an effort to put the measure on the November ballot. The bill would prohibit mandatory union fees at private companies.Republican Speaker Brian Bosma said he’ll try to gavel the House into session again tomorrow. "If that is not an option and we’re again denied the opportunity to work on the people’s business, I’m quite certain we’ll see another motion (to impose more fines)," he said.Republicans have already imposed fines totaling $4,000, but Democrats have filed a court challenge.
