Jacquelyn Mitchard is the bestselling author of “The Deep End of the Ocean.”

She’s in Louisville on Thursday promoting her latest novel, “Two If By Sea,” a story of personal transformation that mixes magical realism with redemption.

Mitchard is scheduled to appear at Thursday’s Author Series at the Louisville Free Public Library at 7 p.m. at the main branch downtown.

I talked with her about her new book and the journey on which she takes its protagonist, Frank Mercy.

“We all are a little bit cynical,” Mitchard says. “But goodness and the wish to instill it is something that’s unexpected and greeted with cynicism — and even skepticism and anger — in every culture. Look what happened to Jesus.”
