JCPS Board Approves Calendar Change

The Jefferson County Board of Education has amended the current school calendar to make up for the five days the district was shut down following the September 14 windstorm. That means students will have to cut their winter break short by one day, returning to class on January 5.School will also be in session February 16, which had been set aside for parent-teacher conferences.Three more makeup days will be added to the end of the calendar, making May 27 the last day of school for students. Some parents have complained that shortening the winter break will interfere with family travel plans.Superintendent Sheldon Berman said he understands the calendar change will pose aninconvenience for some, but it's preferable to extending the school year beyond Memorial Day.Plus, the district could still have some snow days to make up.
