JCPS Collecting School Supplies For Students In Need

The new academic year for Jefferson County Public Schools students begins August 17, and officials have begun an effort to collect school supplies for children whose families cannot afford them. The JCPS Family Resources and Youth Services Center is taking donations of items such as backpacks, folders, pencils and crayons.Spokesperson Carol Bartlett says the items can be dropped off at participating Walgreens stores throughout the area.“We do hope that the community comes out to help with our student as they are getting themselves ready to come back to school. We're doing a lot of things, we have community drives, Neighborhood Place will have community wide back to school fest actually on the 14th on a Saturday, right before school starts on that Tuesday. So this is one of several things we are doing within the community to get kids ready.”Bartlett says employees from her office will distribute the supplies to students in need.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
