JCPS Developing Community Organization Database Called 'Louisville Linked'

The plan to improve connections between Jefferson County Public Schools and local community organizations has received a positive response so far, Superintendent Donna Hargens days.JCPS has been developing an initiative called Louisville Linked to connect students with community-based organizations that could work with them outside of school. The idea is to house data from the area’s CBOs that should help the district manage and grow the efforts of dozens of organizations looking to improve education. The final product will likely be a website that will act as a one-stop shop for parents and families looking for a wide-range of services including mental health care and after-school programs. The district has held two meetings, which Hargens says have been well attended.John Lincoln, who leads  education initiatives for the YMCA of Greater Louisville, estimates that there were more than 100 individuals representing some of the cities largest and smallest community organizations at the first meeting introducing Louisville Linked.Lincoln says he liked the idea so much, the YMCA is now developing its own version of the system.“It’s a no-brainer for the community in my mind. It’s a no brainer for us. We need to have something, a one-stop shop where a parent can go,” he said Hargens said Louisville Linked is still being developed, but it should be online in full beginning next school year.
