Jessica Green Beats Attica Scott in Louisville Council District 1 Race: 'My Mother Has Spoken.'

The Louisville Metro Council's first district will have a new representative.Jessica Green has defeated incumbent Attica Scott in the Democratic primary, and is the de facto winner of the general election, as she faces no Republican opponent.Green won 55 percent to Scott's 45 percent, or 311 votes.Green is the daughter of the late District 1 Councilwoman Judy Green, who was removed from office in 2011 for ethics violations.“Many people tried to make this race about my mother," Jessica Green says. "My mother has spoken and she has gotten the last word.”No Republican filed to run for the District 1 seat.Green's campaign was the center of controversy last week, when mail advertisements attacking Scott drew criticism for implied falsehoods regarding Scott's support of a public art project in the district. The council appointed Scott after Green was voted out. She was then elected to the seat in a special election. She will serve on the council until the end of the year.Scott could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday night. We'll update when she responds.
