He's been campaigning for months, but Louisville Metro Councilman Jim King made it official Monday and filed his candidacy papers to run for mayor.King is a Democrat who was first elected to the Metro Council in 2004, representing Louisville's 10th district. He has served as council president is currently the chairman of the budget committee. The Louisville native says his experience in the private sector as a banker and CPA coupled with his government service have prepared him for the mayor's job.King predicts it will be an expensive campaign. "You know if I had to ballpark it, i would say the primary is a million dollars, a million-two, and the general could easily be the same amount. I hope it isn't," he said.King is among seven Democrats who have announced a bid for the mayor's office, along with two Republicans and two independents.
