Jobless Rates Fall In 68 Of Kentucky's 120 Counties

Eastern Kentucky continues to suffer under crushing unemployment rates, but the picture is somewhat brighter in some central and western Kentucky counties. Magoffin County had the highest November jobless rate, at 18.3 percent, followed by Jackson, McCreary, Powell, Menifee and Clay counties. The lowest unemployment rate, 7.4 percent, was found in Woodford County, followed by Fayette, Oldham, Calloway, Carlisle and Larue counties. Statewide, the November jobless rate stood at 10.2 percent, which was a slight rise from the October rate, but a decrease from the November 2009 rate. One-point-eight million Kentuckians had jobs in November, but 213,000 remained out of work. Nationally, the November jobless rate was 9.8 percent.
