Jobs Bill in Senate, 10th Anniversary of War in Afghanistan, Democratic Secretary of State Candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes: Today on Here and Now

The Obama jobs bill faces a big test this week — there’s a vote in the Senate tomorrow. We’ll get a preview. We’re marking the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Afghanistan, and today, we check in on the National Guard. Remember when Guard members were "weekend warriors," training one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer? Now almost half of the U.S. fighting force in Iraq and Afghanistan is National Guard. Many have been on multiple combat deployments. One in ten troops killed in action since 2001 was a member of the National Guard. The suicide rate has increased. We'll discuss the implications of this shift. And at 1:30 this afternoon, we’ll spend a half hour talking with the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes. We’ll talk about the issues in the campaign, and the candidate will answer your questions at 502-814-TALK (8255). You can listen back to last week's conversation with GOP candidate Bill Johnson here.
