By Rick HowlettOfficials have announced details of the 11th annual Louisville Waterfront Independence Festival.This year's event will be held July 3 and 4, and will feature concerts by John Rich with Cowboy Troy on July 3, and Michael Franti and Spearhead on the second evening. There will also be fireworks displays both nights by Zambelli, which produces the Thunder Over Louisville pyrotechnics each spring.Louisville Metro Fire Chief Greg Frederick says he hopes more people will opt to attend the festival rather than try to ignite fireworks at home and risk injury."Nine out of ten of those (injuries) will be caused by approved consumer fireworks that you can buy at any corner stand or retail store, and that is why we're encouraging everyone to have a safe holiday and this year leave the fireworks to the professionals," he said.There is no admission charge for the festival.(Photo from www.waterfrontindependencefestival.com)
