Jury Selection Begins for Charlie White Trial

The criminal trial for Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White begins Monday. The 12 member jury is being selected to help decide White’s criminal trial where he faces seven felony counts of voter fraud.White lost and appealed a civil court’s decision last year ruling that he illegally used his ex-wife’s address as his own in the 2010 primary, which allowed him to continue holding a position on the Fishers Town Council.“The Secretary of State in Indiana is the highest ranking election official and it's very important that people be able to have confidence in the election system. So election officials, be them Republican or Democrat, should not be working in violation of the law," said attorney Karen Horseman who represented the Indiana Democratic Party that prosecuted the civil suit against White. The criminal trial must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that White is guilty, said Horseman.“The criminal trial it appears it's going to have some difference evidence than we had in the election challenge," she said.A court decision earlier this month has allowed White to continue serving as Secretary of State during his appeal of the civil suit. Both sides want the case to go before the State Supreme Court.
