Kentucky Chamber Starts Second Round of CEO Training for School Principals

Budget cuts and education reforms are putting pressure on teachers and principals to improve student performance. And the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to help them. The chamber's Leadership Institute program gives Kentucky’s principals the same training many corporate CEOs go through. The program costs $9,000 per principal, but is paid for with donations raised by the chamber.Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says the program is needed given the current economy.“I think in today’s climate we need very innovative, out of the box type thinkers given the budget situation that we’re in,' Holliday says. "And while our traditional principal preparation programs are doing a terrific job this takes our leadership to a CEO level and an innovative type level.”The first class is finishing training and the chamber is now accepting applications for this year’s class.
