Kentucky Consulting Firm Agrees With Toll Estimates for Bridges Project

A consulting firm says toll estimates for the Ohio River Bridges Project that have been discussed publicly would generate enough revenue to support the plan.

Officials say tolls are a necessary part of financing the two new bridges and reworking Spaghetti Junction in downtown Louisville.Kentucky has hired a consulting firm to study traffic and revenue for the project to attract investors to buy bonds.Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chuck Wolfe says study confirms previous toll estimates.“While these are not official rates yet, the research that is going into this, the results of that research are promising enough that we can say that these assumed rates are achievable targets," he says.Previous estimates include $1 cost for frequent commuters and $2 for all other cars. Larger trucks would pay between $5 to $10.A bi-state tolling board is still working out details of the plan, despite opposition from several in the Louisville and southern Indiana region.
