Kentucky Farm Bureau Holds Annual Meeting in Louisville

Delegates from Kentucky’s 120 counties will make their way to Louisville this week for the annual meeting of the Kentucky Farm Bureau. The meeting gets underway tomorrow at the Galt House.KFB spokesperson Gary Huddleston says members are interested in learning more about the state’s budget situation and how it might affect them when the General Assembly tries to find a solution."You’re talking about sales taxes, you’re talking about property taxes, you’re talking about excise taxes on products, those kinds of things have direct tie-ins with the agricultural economy and as such, we find a high level of interest among our members in them," saus Huddleston.A presentation by University of Kentucky agriculture economists is on the agenda. HUddleston says their members are interested in getting some facts about turbulent commodities prices."We’ve seen wild swings in what those prices have been, so I would say there will be a lot of interest in what those UK specialists have to say, can we expect that same volatility in ’09? Or are things likely to calm down as a result of what’s going on in crude oil markets?"The Kentucky Farm Bureau will also say goodbye to its president of three years, Marshall Coyle, who’s stepping aside, and complete the leadership selection process for a new president.Members will also hear remarks from Governor Steve Beshear and Senator Mitch McConnell during the four-day meeting.
