Kentucky First Lady To Host Dropout Prevention Summit

Thanks To Lisa Autry, Kentucky Public Radio/WKYU, Bowling GreenKentucky's First Lady is spearheading an effort to reduce Kentucky's high school dropout rate.Officials say while Kentucky's rate is below the national average, nearly 6,500 students left school last year before earning a diploma.Jane Beshear will host a summit in Frankfort next month to talk about ways to improve the numbers.She says participants will include a cross-section of the community."Students,  parents,  teachers,  administrators,  local government people,  business people.   The courts will be involved with us,  many faith-based organizations," she said.The summit, called Graduate Kentucky--A Community Approach,  will be held September 11 and 12.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
