The Kentucky Health Collaborative recently launched a website meant to measure and improve the quality and value of health care in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
The site, gohealthshare.com, allows users to find a physician and to compare the quality of hospitals and primary care providers.
The Kentuckiana Health Collaborative has collect data on physician practices for eight years and reporting it back to physicians and physician groups, co-chair Lawrence Caruso said.
He said this website allows the group to make that information open to the public.
"It can't help but improve the level of care by making this type of data available," he said.
Caruso said health care is one of the only services where getting information about cost and quality upfront is difficult.
The information is based on claims data primarily from Medicaid and other health insurance providers in Kentucky.
The website measures a provider's average score and compares it to regional scores.
"That's how you can determine quality scores, which can help patients determine whether or not they are getting the best quality care—going to the best quality providers in the region and help them make informed decisions as to where they go for their health care," he said.
The website does not provide the cost for medical services, but Caruso said the organization hopes to add that feature in the future.
