Kentucky Health Officials Prepare for H1N1

Kentucky health officials say they are as prepared as they can be for another possible round of the H1N1 virus to sweep the state. Department for Public Health Commissioner William Hacker says if there is another outbreak, many experts predict 25%-30% of the population will be infected, and some say up to 40% could get the virus.“The history of these types of infections of flu, is that it comes in waves, sometimes the second wave can be more intense in terms of numbers of cases, or it can change in virulence," says Hacker, "and we’ll just have to wait and track to see if that is the case or not.”Hacker says the CDC is still working on a vaccine for H1N1, which would need to be taken in addition to the seasonal flu vaccine. He says 45-50-million doses of the vaccine should be ready by mid-October, and another 20-million a week until the need is met.
