Kentucky House Considers Mandatory DNA Collection

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh A Kentucky House bill requiring mandatory collection of DNA samples from convicted felons is another step closer to final passage in the state legislature. The Senate Judiciary committee voted unanimously for the DNA collection bill sponsored by Louisville Rep. Reginald Meeks. Meeks says the measure will apply to any person, including juveniles, convicted of felony offenses."This bill comes to us with the support of the League of Cities, KACO, coroners, jailers, the county judges association, the magistrate’s association, county attorneys, medical examiners and on and on and on," said Meeks. The committee also said yes to a measure banning the sale, purchase or use of alcohol vaporizing devices, which hasten inebriation. Both bills already have House approval and now move to the Senate floor.
