Kentucky Natives Win Tony Awards

Ashland native Steve Kazee picked up a Tony Award last night for Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance as Guy in "Once," the Broadway adaptation of the 2006 film an Irish busker and a Czech immigrant who spend a week together writing and playing music. "Once" won eight Tony awards this year, including Best Musical.Kazee graduated from Morehead State University and has appeared in many television and stage productions, including a run as Sir Lancelot in "Spamalot."Watch Kazee's emotional acceptance, which he dedicated to his "Once" co-star and his late mother. Kazee with the company of "Once" performing live on the 2012 Tony Award ceremony:Kentucky native Darron L. West won the Best Sound Design Tony for his work on "Peter and the Starcatcher." West grew up in Elizabethtown. He's a former resident sound designer at Actors Theatre of Louisville, where he also directed Jordan Harrison's "Kid Simple" in the 2004 Humana Festival of New American Plays. West is also  a member of Anne Bogart's SITI Company, frequent collaborators with Actors Theatre. West's ebullient acceptance speech:The Tony Awards are the American Theatre Wing's annual awards for the best Broadway theatrical productions.
