The Kentucky Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether Louisville had the authority to raise its minimum wage last year.
The state’s highest court has agreed to take up a challenge from local business groups, WDRB reports.
The Louisville Metro Council passed an ordinance last December raising the minimum wage in the city to $9 an hour by July 2017. The first phase of the ordinance went into effect July 1 of this year.
Earlier this summer, a Jefferson County circuit court upheld the city’s law, throwing out a legal challenge from a coalition of business groups. The groups argue that Metro Government does not have the power to set wages.
Louisville was the first city in the South to raise the minimum wage.
