KLC, KACo Transparency Bill Sent To Senate

by Tony McVeigh, Kentucky Public RadioLegislation requiring greater transparency for two key organizations that serve local governments in Kentucky remains alive in the 2010 General Assembly.Recent state audits found lax oversight and questionable spending by the Kentucky Association of Counties and Kentucky League of Cities. That led to passage of bills in the House and Senate putting both agencies under state sunshine laws. With time running out on the 2010 session, the contents of both bills have been amended to another Senate bill. Georgetown Rep. Charlie Hoffman rose to speak in favor of the legislation.“Also to commend our State Auditor Crit Luallen for leading the charge to help change the culture of these organizations that mean so much to our local governments," he says. The House voted 94-0 for the amended bill and sent it back to the Senate for final action.
